I was born in Cookham Dean and have had the good fortune to live here all my life. My grandfather was Vicar at St. John the Baptist from 1928-45, and my father a Churchwarden. At Woodlands Farm we had Jersey cows and latterly 6000 free range hens, and local people kept their horses in our former calving boxes. I joined Cookham Parish Council aged 21 and held a number of positions in public life for the next 35 years. Mary and I have been married for over 50 years and our seven grandchildren live in Colorado, Sydney and Henley.
We are very lucky to be able to travel to see the overseas family every year. I have always listed my main hobbies as ‘resisting bureaucracy’ and ‘getting things done’.
I have been a sidesman and reader at Holy Trinity since 1974, and, in public life, led a ‘Faith in Politics’ group. In November 2017, Bishop Andrew licensed me as a Lay Minister, and it is a great privilege to be involved with our Ministry Team in the life of the Benefice.
